Day 4 - Girona - June 2

Today we went to Girona. It was about a 30 minute train ride from Barcelona. Pol, a foreign exchange student from the 2014-15 school year lives there and wanted to show us around his town. It was a beautiful old city and I’m really glad we were able to visit it. We started in the modern side of the city and walked across the bridge into the old city. This city dates back to 900 AD at least that is when the cathedral started to be built. We walked all around the grounds around the cathedral and took a tour inside the cathedral and courtyards. We stopped for tapas for a midday snack, and then walked along some gorgeous paths and on top of the old city walls. Josh loved the old section of the city and was running and exploring all over the place. We also walked through the alleys of the old city and stopped to buy some nougat which the city is famous for. After spending most of the day in the old city, we walked back to the new city for some ice cream sandwiches Pol recommended. They were really good, except the lady cooked mine too long, so it was leaking ice cream. We then stopped at a clothing store called Zara. We weren’t going to buy anything, but we looked around and Josh found some slim shirts and pants so he tried them on. They actually have pants and shirts that fit his tall and skinny build and they looked really good on him! So I bought him 2 outfits and he also bought himself a hat. We then went to a restaurant for dinner. Most of the kids got hamburgers, the Espinoza’s got seafood and I got chicken and potatoes and fried zucchini. The food was delicious! Josh loved his burger and said the BBQ sauce on it was the best he had ever tasted. After dinner we walked back to the train station and got home around 10:30 p.m.
