Day 2 - Madrid, Spain - June 12th

We took the metro (subway) back to the Espinoza’s apartment and arrived around 9:00 a.m. Israel then made us omelets for breakfast and we bought some chocolate milk the day before so we had that too and it was all delicious! Then we made a lunch and started off our sightseeing around 10:30 a.m. We got on the metro and headed to the main part of the city to the Palace. The Palace was beautiful and there were manicured gardens all around it. There is also a Cathedral next to it and we went inside. Inside were the most beautifully sculpted silver lilies! It was the first cathedral Megan has been inside, and she loved how intricate and ornate and beautiful it was. We walked through a pretty park next to the palace and ate our lunches there. Our plans were to then visit a monastery. When we got there, it was closing for 2 hours, so we decided to walk and shop at a nearby mall until it opened again. Megan and I were looking at jewelry but everything was so expensive. Meg and Kat also went to a pet store and looked at the puppies. Kat was hungry so we sat at a little restaurant in a nearby plaza. Kat and the Espinoza’s ordered some appetizers and drinks and Megan got a lemonade. They shared their appetizers which were a yummy melon with prosciutto on top, some bread and cheese, and fried bread/cheese with ham. I was able to chat with Dave also. We then went back to the monastery, but found out it wasn’t free so it didn’t appeal as much to everyone. And we were also short on time. So we walked to a main shopping area that was covered with blue and white banners. We found some rings that we liked so we bought them. I really enjoy walking around Madrid. The architecture is really beautiful and I loved the plaza’s everywhere. We stopped at a market on our way home to buy dinner ingredients. We bought a turkey breast, veggies and a watermelon and cookies. Israel cooked it up for us and we all inhaled it in 10 minutes. We were very hungry and it tasted delicious. Israel showed Meg and I a way to walk back to our apartment without having to take the metro, so we walked back and it ended up being faster than the metro.
